Leaving Florence for one and a half hours drive in private car in order to reach one of the most unique places for which Italia is worldwide well known. The Marble Caves of Carrara. With a assistant you start your day with a visit of a laboratory of sculpture where you can see how they do work the prestigious blocks of marble. You will continue the trip by a tour at the city of Carrara where you will discover some treasures of the historical centre like the Duomo, the water fountain ”Il Gigante” and the house where Michelangelo stayed when he bought his marble.Lunch (not included in the package) will be taken in a very small town full of atmosphere called Colonnata, famous for its “Lardo”, speciality from this region.After lunch you will be driven through the valley of Fantiscritti and Colonnata where a part of the marble quarries are based. For sure you will stop in the famous cave where Michelangelo and other famous sculptures did get their marble for their famous works. A stroll through the open air museum with its original and copied sculptures, will give you a good idea of how it was and how it is today, working with marble.
