Meeting with the driver and the guide in hotel. La Scala Theatre. Theatre La Scala, is where world famous composer, singers, and orchestra conductors make their debuts. It's located in P.zza Scala where the church of St. Maria della Scala, built in 1381 by Bernabò Visconti's wife, Beatrice Regina della Scala, used to stand. By the time La Scala was officially inaugurated on August 1778 with Antonio Salieri's Europa Riconosciuta. The theatre faithfully reconstructed after the serious damage suffered during the 1943 bombings, holds 2800 spectators. In the palace with portico to the left of La Scala, we find the Theatre Museum. It contains a precious collection of objects and relics relating to the history of La Scala Theatre and to theatrical art from classical antiquity to modern times. La Scala Theatre Museum. The museum, founded at the beginning of 20th century, actually houses three collections: the Giulio Sambon Collection acquired in Paris, the Verdi Collection, and the Theatre Collection. Set up according to the newest museum criteria, the collections are an invaluable document relating not just to theatre in Milan, but also to the development of theatre in Italy and the world over, from its birth up to our day. Church of San Fedele. St. Carlo Borromeo commissioned his favourite architect Pellegrini to design this church for the Jesuit order. Pellegrini's faced reflects the Baroque concept of inspiring religious architecture. Belgioioso Palace. The Belgioioso Palace, a 19th century work by Piermarini, dominates the square of the same name. The façade, noteworthy for its elegance, sports a rusticated stone base enhanced by semi-columns surmounted by a triangular pediment. Poldi-Pezzoli Museum. Along the fashionable thoroughfare, Via Manzoni, at number 12, we find the Poldi-Pezzoli Museum. Originally the building was the home of the titled art collector Gian Giacomo Poldi-Pezzoli. When he died in 1879 he left all the collections he had so lovingly assembled in his own home to a foundation set up for the benefit of the general public. Although seriously damaged during the last war, the museum was quickly restored and today, while scrupulously adhering to the most modern museum criteria, it has managed to preserve the feeling of a 19th century private collection. Among the numerous painting we mention Madonna and Child by Andrea Mantegna; Lament over the Dead of Christ by Giovanni Bellini; Madonna and Child and Lament over the Dead of Christ two painting by Sandro Botticelli; St. Nicholas of Tolentino by Piero della Francesca; Portrait of a young woman a masterpiece by Antonio Pollaiolo.
