Meeting with the driver in hotel. An English-speaking driver will be waiting for you at your hotel at a prearranged time to start you half-day tour to Como, the capital of the Lario situated in the Italian Lakes Distric, where an expert local guide will wait for you.. Many are the reasons for the interest and the recall for Lake Como: the incomparable beauty of the landscape, so varied in its sceneries and colours; the presence of evocative corners along the lake coast, the richness of the historical and artistic patrimony. Como preserves all the past charm, it is like lose sense of time and space, like lose yourself looking a house or an object as a work of art. From any direction one can reach Como, the first element that is immediately noticed, also from a certain distance, is the Baradello Castle which dominates over Como and over the amphitheatre of the lake. The Baradello Tower is the "Sentinel made of Stone". Near the tower we can find the Basilica of San Carpoforo with its remarkable apses and the bell-tower. The history of Como is very rich of episodes and many are the proofs of a very illustrious past as far as the archaeological, architectural, religious and civil aspects are concerned. From Piazza Cavour we reach the majestic Cathedral in Gothic-Renaissance style that has been built thanks to the genius of the Maestri Comacini and visit it, next to it is the Broletto (the ancient Town-hall built in a Roman-Gothic style), Piazza Verdi where there are monuments dating from different historic periods (Medioeval Walls, a Neoclassic Theatre and a rationalist building by Terragni). At the end of Via Vittorio Emanuele, that is the main street in the city, we'll visit San Fedele's church and its square where there are still houses of XV and XVI centuries (every Saturday there is a flea market). Walking along the narrow streets of the Medioeval town we reach Porta Torre (the old entrance of the city) and its walls (market three times a week). You can admire the beautiful statue of G. Garibaldi by V. Vela in Piazza della Vittoria to commemorate the definitive liberation of Como from the Austrian domination. Return to hotel.
